October 28, 2010Around Sun Valley, Wednesday is known as Paper Day. You can just say it’s Paper Day and most people will know what day you are taking about. Wednesday. This is the day that the Idaho Mountain Express prints their main weekly copy of the local newspaper. The Wood River Journal also used to publish a paper on Wednesday but they no longer do. Now, they just have a few articles posted in the Idaho Mountain Express. Plus, a few years back, The Idaho Mountain Express started publishing a Friday edition that isn’t as widely read or anticipated, except for Dr. Spa (more on that topic later…) Wednesday is still Paper Day.
Valley residents love Paper Day. It’s a great way to catch up on local happenings and events. Local government reports from Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley Planning and Zoning and City Council meetings usually make the headlines. Local color stories are popular, too. Affordable housing, real estate and development activity and airport relocation and land use issues get constant attention as well.
There is a great sports wrap up section for all the local prep sports events. Arts and entertainment events are showcased. Letters to the editor are fun to read if you’d like to get riled up over a current topic. Plus, most of the articles talk about people you know and there’s a good chance you will see a picture of a pal, or maybe even yourself.
The classified are great too. All the standards are there like real estate for sale in Sun Valley, rentals, help wanted, stuff for sale, yard sales.. the usuals. But everyone likes to read Miscellany II. Miscellany II is a rant and rave section reserved for anonymous postings. Some thank you’s, some rants about getting cut off in traffic, warnings of bad karma for swiping a bike and old girlfriend mishaps from the Casino on Saturday night. Its all good and all part of the valley.
Don’t forget Paper Day. It’s Wednesday.
